Hi, I’m Janine and I am a qualified and experienced Psychodynamic and CBT counsellor based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. I am registered with the BACP and I work in accordance with the BACP ethical framework.

I  work with clients who are experiencing the following:

I  am also experienced in working with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, confidence issues, trauma, suicidal ideation, child sexual exploitation/child criminal exploitation with young people.

I have expertise in narcissist abuse and the impact this can have on you and I will work with you to support you in understanding narcissism, gaslighting and trauma bonding and putting healthy boundaries in place so that you can take back control of your own life. 

Types of Therapy

My counselling experience is diverse and I work with clients with anxiety, depression, work related stress, low self-esteem, anger issues and trauma, relationship issues and porn/sex addiction. I also specialise in working with survivors of narcissistic abuse.

I work with individuals as well as couples who are experiencing relationship difficulties and wish to explore and work on their relationship. I am an integrative therapist and I use different tools throughout therapy to ensure our work is client focused around you.

Integrative Therapy

As an integrative therapist I will work with you to carry out an assessment at our first meeting to tailor your therapy to meet your needs, this will enable you to get the best out of the therapy sessions. Integrative therapy consists of using different approaches to help you set goals and challenge unhelpful behaviours you may wish to change.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic theory looks at how the events in our childhood shaped our personality and have affected us as adults. Basically our behaviour and feelings as adults which may be affecting our lives or relationships are rooted in our childhood experiences. Therapy can work with you to explore these behaviours and feelings and help you to make changes you wish to make.

CBT therapy

Are you finding yourself having negative thoughts that are impacting on your life? Are you stuck in a cycle of negative thinking that you feel you can’t get out of? Therapy can work with you to identify these thoughts and find a way to make positive changes to break the cycle you may find yourself in. Our thoughts create how we feel so it makes sense that we may feel worried and scared when our thoughts become dark.

Maybe you have self-esteem issues or you are co-dependent and feel you always put other peoples needs before your own. Negative experiences in our early and adult life can have a huge impact on how we see ourselves and the world around us. Our core beliefs are the rules we live our lives by and negative core beliefs can leave us feeling we aren’t good enough, will never be happy and don’t have any purpose in life. CBT can help you to explore your core beliefs and your rules for living so that you can make positive changes to your thought processes.

Through therapy we will work together to explore your thoughts and feelings and what difficulties you are experiencing and I will support you to work towards any changes you wish to make using a mixture of therapeutic tools.

I work in an Integrative way with Psychodynamic and CBT being at the centre of my approach. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I work within their ethical standards and continue to work within their framework and code of ethics. I will work with you weekly, fortnightly or monthly to explore the challenges you are facing and together we can put a plan of action in place using CBT interventions to support you in making the changes you wish to make. I offer a warm, friendly safe space for you to explore your concerns. I have experience of working with narcissistic abuse, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, domestic abuse and relationship issues.

I also have experience of working with teenagers around emotional wellbeing, self harm, anxiety and sexual exploitation issues.

I offer telephone, zoom and home visits for clients who prefer this as well as evening and weekend appointments.

FAQ

In our first session we will explore together why you are seeking counselling and what your aims are. Counselling for you may consist of setting future goals, exploring your past and difficulties you have had or it may a space for you to share your thoughts and feelings and validate your experiences and how they have made or continue to make you feel.

If goal setting is your aim a mixture of CBT and Solution Focused therapy can be used in the sessions, with you taking responsibility for setting your goals. CBT therapy includes us working in collaboration and agreeing a treatment plan so that you can get the most of out the therapy sessions. 

If you prefer a safe space to share your feelings and work through them during our sessions then that is something we can do together. You as the client are the expert in your own life and therefore I will, as the therapist support you in understanding and validating your feelings.
