Everyone has times in their life when they are feeling low but if you are feeling this way for a length of time or finding it difficult to get on with your life then you may be experiencing depression. Without treatment depression can affect you for weeks, months and even years and can have a huge effect on your quality of life.
The symptoms of depression can be low mood, tearful, angry, unmotivated and loss of confidence and a general feeling of not wanting to participate in life. You may also be experiencing aches and pains which are increasing your thoughts of worry and feelings of low mood.
Big life changes can lead to feelings of depression, or you may not know why you are feeling depressed. Counselling can work with you to explore the reasons for you feeling depressed without judgement and help you to find strategies to deal with your depression and find yourself again.
Psychodynamic therapy can explore the root of your depression and CBT can support you in challenging your negative thinking which will help you to change your negative behaviour. Psychodynamic therapy is not short-term therapy and some clients may require long term sessions to explore their past. CBT is short term structured therapy and will involve you completing homework between session to get the best out of therapy in order for you to make the changes you wish to make.
